Our COVID-19 update
It’s been a while since we last posted and since then a lot has changed in the world, unfortunately, this has meant us at Voices by Light have had to re-think our plans; pursuing our previous hopes to give children from difficult backgrounds across Asia and Africa the opportunity to learn photography isn’t viable as a result of the current crisis due to the safety issues involved concerning COVID19. However, it’s not all bad news - in order to still be able to give young people the opportunity to express themselves through photography, while ensuring the safety of everyone involved, we hope to soon be giving hearing-impaired students, right here in the UK, the opportunity to explore photography in and around their own environments. We’ll be donating a number of the cameras that our amazing supporters have so kindly parted with, to young people with hearing difficulties. Each camera will be posted with a short leaflet detailing some inspiration, advice, subjects and support operating the cameras so that the students have some help with what to shoot and how to use the cameras. We will then stay in touch with each child over the two-month project to review their photographs and give them feedback throughout.
The photographs will then be shown in a small exhibition and a book, the funds raised by these will be donated to the organisation which helps the children the most and a copy of the book will be posted (free) to each child. The exhibition and book will consist of pictures documenting the lives of the children.
Many more updates to come on our social media and our website over the following months.
Thanks again for all your support and to everyone who has donated a camera/cameras etc. We wouldn't be able to help children express themselves and tell their stories through photography without all your help.
